Parade of Homes offers 27 chances to be inspired
By
Dave McArthur
President, Home Builders Association of Greater Salt Lake
On
behalf of the Home Builders Association of Greater Salt Lake, I
would like to invite you to our 54th Parade of Homes. We are
proud to showcase the best our industry has to offer.
The
Parade of Homes has become a popular and long-lasting tradition
in Utah. For many, it has become a social outing as well as an
opportunity to see the latest in home design. This year’s
homes are spectacular and are brought to life with outstanding
decorating and landscaping.
There
are 27 homes on display. Seven of the homes are at SunCrest, the
main site of the Parade of Homes. Anyone who has looked up at
the mountains south of Draper over the last two years has seen
the construction activity and probably wondered what was going
on. The answer is the building of SunCrest.
SunCrest
encompasses about 7,000 acres and will eventually include about
3,000 homes. This
new community sits atop Traverse Mountain — generally referred
to as the
Point
of the Mountain — and offers great views of both the Salt Lake
and Utah valleys. From
almost every location you will be able to see the Wasatch
Mountains, all the way from Ogden to Spanish Fork.
There
are views of Lone Peak and Mt. Timpanogos that most Utahns have
never seen. The
elevation at the main site is about 6,500 feet, making it seem
more like Park City than Salt Lake.
In
this case, the mountain-resort theme is carried throughout the
development so that the desired architecture blends into the
surroundings. This is a wonderful location for our 2000 Parade
of Homes and one you will not want to miss.
The
Exhibitors' Tent, which features more than 80 booths, is also
located at the main site. This is also where you can obtain
entry tickets to the Parade of Homes. The ticket includes entry
not only to the seven homes at SunCrest, but also to the tent
and the 20 homes at scattered locations. Parking is available
near the Exhibitors’ Tent.
After
seeing the main site homes, you will have a ticket and
invitation to visit the scattered homes. These homes add to the
parade because they cover a wide price range, from just over
$100,000 to $1.6 million.
Two
of the scattered-site homes are also at SunCrest.
Located near the fixed site, J & J & Sons and
Village Communities will have homes that will further showcase
the future at SunCrest.
Fifteen
other homes are scattered throughout the Salt Lake Valley,
including the “Year 2000 Millennial Home.” This
$1.6 million home is located in Draper Heights, which is
part-way up Traverse Mountain. It includes a three-level
waterfall inside the home. The waterfall can be viewed from
several rooms and the ambiance created by the sound of falling
water sets an atmosphere in all the rooms used for entertaining.
This
home has a separate guest suite that rivals the finest hotels.
Two adjacent building lots have been joined together to create a
courtyard-like entrance, while the home itself sits on the edge
of a hillside and overlooks the valley. You won’t want to miss
this home.
The
scattered site homes make it possible to display homes all over
the valley and in many different price ranges. Other builders in
the Draper area are Dave Lasater Construction and 3-B Builders.
Two homes in the Willow Creek area were built by Sovereign Homes
and Elegant Homes. Both of these homes are designed with a
discriminating buyer in mind. Koenig Construction and Hamlet
Homes built two homes in Murray. R.W. Warner Construction,
Bequette Development and Building Dynamics will have homes on
display in South Jordan.
Another
example of the variety of homes on display this year is a
townhome built by McArthur Homes in West Jordan. This upscale
townhome attracts both first-time buyers and those interested in
a more carefree lifestyle.
In
Riverton, Blair Bangerter Construction and D.R. Horton will have
homes on display. Doug
Jessop Construction will show a home in Bluffdale while Bach
Corporation will show a model home in Herriman.
Three
homes will be in Overlake, a new community at 2000 North in
Tooele. Tickets to the parade will also be available for
purchase at Jack’s Market at Overlake. Tooele is the fourth
fastest-growing community in Utah, so the Parade of Homes is
pleased to show homes by three prominent builders at Overlake
— Holmes Homes, Fieldstone Homes and Gold Medallion Homes.
