| The designer of this home is a professional home designer and just happens to be the owner, too. What he wanted to show was that a new home could be built in an older neighborhood "and blend in.'' And, he says, he did just that.
This is a new home that carries with it the feel of a home that was built in the early 1900s. What it took to get it to look that way was a lot more detail work than one could imagine. Because the home is located on a busy street, all of the bedrooms were placed in the basement of the home for sound control. All of the bedrooms will be warmed with radiant heat. The living and dining rooms, butler pantry, kitchen and breakfast nook are located on the main level. Off from the family room there is a flower or potting room. In the loft area there has been designed an office that will have great views of the nearby mountains.
Because the rooms are large, the designer introduced thickened walls and thickened beams. The average ceiling height is 15 feet. The extra thickness gives a cozy feeling to the rooms, instead of an overwhelming feeling. Tile from France and England was used in the bathroom. Tile from a local company was also used in the home. Over the fireplace in the family room, in order to give it an old look, painting was done the old way. That is, paint was mixed in the plaster and then applied.
There are four fireplaces in the home. The cabinets in the kitchen were also handmade by a local furniture maker in order to get the old, unfitted look. In the lower level of the home are the three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a music room, kitchenette and a playhouse for kids.
